Coming together for the Plastic Free Pledge
Across communities, people of all ages and backgrounds are making a Plastic Free Pledge today—including individuals, schools, workplaces, families, friends, local offices, and cafés. Members of Parliament in Australia are taking part, too, while Ambassador Jack Johnson is helping to share the message from the stage in New York.
Together, each pledge adds to the momentum behind a world record attempt for The Most People Refusing Single-Use Plastic in One Day.
Baking a small change at home
When Alex and her family looked for simple ways to reduce plastic at home, bread bags stood out as something they used often. Their answer was to find a second-hand bread machine and start baking fresh loaves together—a small household change that made a real difference. Join Alex pledging today.
Refillable dairy, shared impact
The Udder Way, winner of our first Unpackit Awards in June, is helping cafés, supermarkets and businesses across Australia choose refillable milk kegs instead of single-use bottles. Since 2021, this practical solution has helped avoid 4.5 million single-use plastic milk bottles—showing the positive impact communities and businesses can create together. Read more.
Every pledge, no matter how small, adds to a bigger story of people choosing to care for their communities and the places we share. Together, these everyday actions can help create lasting change and move us closer to a future with less plastic waste.
Plastic Free July was started by Rebecca Prince-Ruiz (the Executive Director of the Plastic Free Foundation) and a small team in local government in Western Australia. They saw an opportunity to help people take practical action to reduce plastic waste.
What started as a local initiative has grown into a global movement, with millions of people choosing to take part every year, and often continuing these habits far beyond the month of July.
