What happens when the strange and the familiar collide? In I Made This Just for You, Chris Ames invites readers into a world that feels both surreal and uncomfortably close to our own. This collection of 17 short stories explores the complexities of modern life, where technology, artificial intelligence, social expectations and economic pressures influence how we see ourselves and relate to others.
Through an imaginative cast of characters and a series of unusual, sometimes bizarre situations, Ames explores identity, loneliness, grief, family and our search for authentic connection. His writing combines dark humour, sharp social observation, and unexpected moments of tenderness, challenging us to look beyond everyday absurdity and recognise the very human experiences beneath it.
The manuscript won the 2025 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for an Unpublished Manuscript, recognising Chris Ames’s fresh, thought-provoking take on modern life, technology, and human connection.
I took a look at Chris Ames website, and it really gives you the feeling of the “strange and familiar colliding” …. Jacquie Walker (Editor)
