Embrace Plastic Free July

The Town of Bassendean in Western Australia is working towards a world without plastic. In this video they tell us about their efforts, benefits and achievements. Renée McLennan served as Mayor from 2017 to 2021 and served as Deputy Mayor from 2021 to 2023.  She was nominated for her transformational leadership, outstanding achievements and significant contributions to the Bassendean community. Under Renée McLennan’s leadership, the Town of Bassendean became one of the first northern metropolitan councils to implement the three-bin FOGO system, driving the Town of Bassendean landfill diversion rate from 20.6% to 62.2% within the first year.

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people choose to refuse single-use plastic and reduce their plastic waste. Local governments and councils can show their values, engage their wider community and make widespread impact by striving to reduce plastic waste.

Businesses big and small can have widespread impact by striving to reduce plastic waste. To find out more about how you can make an impact, visit plasticfreejuly.org
