A Tribute to Dr Jean Houston – a Visionary of Our Time

Sometimes Angels walk among us. And sometimes extraordinary visionaries walk among us … Patricia and I would like to pay tribute to Dr Jean Houston, the prominent philosopher, teacher, and pioneer of the human potential movement, who left this world on May 16, 2026, at the age of 89.

One of Jean’s most enduring contributions was her ability to restore the importance of myth, imagination, and story in human development. Influenced by thinkers such as Joseph Campbell and Margaret Mead, she taught that myth is not simply a relic of the past, but a living language that helps individuals and cultures navigate transformation. Through her Mystery School and later educational programs, she guided thousands of students in exploring spiritual growth, creativity, archetypes, and the deeper dimensions of human purpose.

Patricia and I had the great fortune of witnessing Jean Houston speak at the Science and Nonduality Conference in 2018. Her presentation on the human blueprint was not simply a lecture — it felt like an invitation to remember something ancient and essential within us. Jean spoke of the deeper pattern encoded within every human life, a latent potential waiting to awaken through consciousness, creativity, courage, and love. Listening to her, one had the sense that she was not merely sharing ideas but transmitting a living vision of what humanity could become.

Jean Houston devoted her life to exploring and expanding human consciousness, becoming one of the pioneering figures of the Human Potential Movement. Through her teaching, writing, and research, she encouraged millions of people to recognise that human beings possess far greater creative, spiritual, and psychological capacities than are commonly understood. Her work helped bring conversations about consciousness, personal transformation, and human evolution into mainstream awareness, influencing generations of seekers, educators, therapists, and spiritual teachers.

So today we choose to honour her life’s work and the significance of her contribution to our understanding of what it means to be human.

With gratitude and heartfelt love
Jacquie and Patricia
