While many prepare to gather in gratitude, we want to remember that this season also holds another truth, one often left untold. For many Indigenous nations, Thanksgiving holiday in the US is not a day of celebration, but a Day of Mourning.

Since 1970, Native American communities have gathered in Plymouth, Massachusetts, to observe a National Day of Mourning, honoring the ancestors lost to genocide, disease, and displacement, and resisting the erasure perpetuated by the dominant narrative of Thanksgiving. It is a time to remember, to grieve, and to speak truth.

With this awareness in our hearts, we invite you to the global premiere of
If An Owl Calls Your Name—the third film in our Wisdom of the Ancestors series, premiering December 9–13, 2025, alongside a 5-day live event with Indigenous Elders, healers, and activists.

A story we’ll never forget

“While filming If An Owl Calls Your Name, we kept hearing whispers about a young man who had stood in front of logging trucks to protect his forest, alone, persistent, and nearly impossible to find. His name was Kolin. No phone. No email. Just stories.

One day, walking through the riverside village of Kispiox (Anspay’axw), we passed a home adorned with beautiful Indigenous artwork and a wooden sign that read: “Entrance prohibited to stupid people.” We paused, unsure if that included us 😆.

An Elder standing outside smiled, waved, and welcomed us in. His name was Art Wilson (Wii Muk’willixw). Inside, he was steaming cedar into the graceful curve of a traditional bentwood box—no nails, just heat, patience, and reverence.

We listened. We filmed. His stories carried lifetimes—of land defence, totems, and resistance.

Then he said, softly, “My son will be arriving soon.” Moments later, Kolin walked in.

Yes. That Kolin.

We spent the following days with him—at home, in the forest, on the land he protected with his whole being. Some might call it coincidence. We call it ancestral timing.”
