The Amazing Liver Part 1: Your Body’s Energy Commander

Are you ready to discover how your liver keeps you energized, the science behind its metabolic magic, and real-life stories of transformation when liver health is restored?

The liver is often overlooked, yet it is the silent powerhouse behind your daily energy and vitality. Known in Chinese medicine as “The General of the Army of the Body,” the liver orchestrates your body’s energy supply, stabilizes blood sugar, and can even help you shed stubborn weight.

Managing the Body’s Energy Supply

The liver regulates carbohydrate metabolism and when glucose rises after a meal, the liver converts the excess sugar into a storage form called glycogen. This is critical as it prevents blood sugar levels from going too high after eating. In between meals the liver turns its stored glycogen back into sugar and it is released back into the bloodstream to maintain a steady blood glucose level. This maintains energy and reduces cravings for sugar and stimulants.

The liver can also make its own new glucose (a process known as gluconeogenesis), from non-carbohydrate food sources like lactate, amino acids, and glycerol. This provides a continuous energy supply for the brain if glycogen stores become low. So, if you have a healthy liver, you do not have to eat regular amounts of carbohydrate to stay energised.

The liver’s ability to stabilise blood sugar explains the success of two of my recent patients (Beverley and Michelle) who were both overweight and tired because of insulin resistance. They were both in their 70s and thought they had a healthy diet and exercise program. However, their insulin resistance had caused fatty liver, and this was preventing their metabolism from changing away from fat storing to fat burning. They did not realise that the key to changing their health was to improve their liver with a lower carbohydrate eating plan. I gave them the eating plan in my book titled Fatty Liver – You can reverse it, plus a good liver formula and over six months Bev lost 18 kilograms in fat and Michelle lost 16 kilograms. They did not lose muscle and they experienced significant increases in energy and immune function.

This is a guide for anyone who has a fatty liver. It is a great place to start if you are on a journey to reclaim your health.
