Jacinda Ardern’s approach to being a leader is refreshing and gives us hope that the next generation of leaders may look to embrace her leadership style. Authenticity and leading from the heart are qualities rarely seen in public leadership. She allows us to look behind the public veil into her personal journey in the role.
The documentary captures the critical and defining events of Ardern’s leadership. It highlights her compassionate and empathetic response to the Christchurch Mosque attacks, as well as her decisive—though sometimes controversial—approach to managing the COVID-19 pandemic. Through these moments, the film paints a comprehensive picture of Ardern’s impact as a leader on both a national and global stage. It shows her deep compassion for the people she represented and her love for her country. It was quite shocking to witness the public unrest and the viciousness of her critics in relation to the policy regarding compulsory vaccinations. You might not agree with all her political decisions of the day, but in my mind, she made policy decisions from a place of integrity and wanting the best outcomes for all those she governed.
This is not a whitewash painting a pretty picture for grandiose self-promotion. This is a journey of the heart and passion for a job that demanded leadership and someone who would make decisive decisions for the highest good of her nation… and I believe Jacinda Ardern achieved that. The documentary has achieved remarkable commercial success in New Zealand and is destined to become one of the most acclaimed documentaries of all time.
